My new book, Essential Cordwood Building, arrived here about a week ago. We really like this book, and it will be the new textbook for our Cordwood Masonry workshops beginning in 2018. All of our 2018 workshops are now listed on the Workshops page of this website. The schedule is similar to 2017, although we will not be doing a Timber Framing workshop in 2018.
Next Open House: Saturday, May 5, 2018
This free event showcases a variety of green building techniques. See a dozen different cordwood masonry buildings, several living roofs, earth-sheltered housing, , the masonry stove, the sauna, bicycle powered water system, off-the-grid solar electric system, raised bed gardening and the Earthwood stone circle The complete tour takes almost two hours, so be sure to arrive by 2 p.m. 366 Murtagh Hill Road, West Chazy, NY. On the same day, Bruce and Nancy Kilgore are having open house tours at their beautiful Ravenwood homestead, just 17 miles from Earthwood. Tour both places on the same day. (Ravenwood is one of the most beautiful cordwood homes in the world!) They are staying open until 6 pm, so you can come to Earthwood – we close at 4 pm – and then move over to Ravenwood. Their address is 442 Nashville Road, Saranac, NY 12981.
Our October 7, 2017 Open House was a great success! Over 100 people toured the campus. Kelly O’Brien from WCAX (Channel 3) did an article about us the day before, but it did not appear until two days after the Open House, on October 9th. But it was pretty good, runs just over two minutes.
